1. Quote of the week

If we were rigorously “scientific” in collecting information for our decisions, it would take us so long to collect the data that the time for action would have passed long before the work had been completed. -- Alan Watts

At some point, we have to make a decision and get on with it, accepting that we will not necessarily have a complete picture to make the decision.

2. What I've been enjoying

Despite the fact we are stuck at home due to the quarantine, I have been enjoying the garden due to the good weather. The mornings are fresh and the afternoons are sunny, but not too hot to be uncomfortable.

I've been watching videos by the 8-bit Guy. My favourite this week was the restoration of a VIC-20 that had seen a lot of action. It was covered in machine oil, but David managed to restore it and get it working completely. Similarly, I stumbled upon the work of Noel's Retrolab. He goes into far more detail and repairs computing equipment. There's a combination of skills required to get the case restored along with electronics knowledge to restore the motherboard. Very satisfying to watch and very educational.

3. What I'm reading

I'm continuing with The Way of Zen by Alan Watts. The book is interesting but quite heavy to read and I'm having trouble concentrating on it at bedtime. I suspect I will need another week or two on it.

4. What I'm doing in my free time

I racked a Strong Ale I made a couple of weeks ago. I've been revising my network infrastructure knowledge for a project I'm doing outside of work. I'm still working on the final draft of my Handwriting Book. This weekend I'm trying to have a rest and a bit of a reboot ready for the next couple of months towards summer. Also, I've been playing chess and 8-bit video games.

5. What I'm learning more about

This week I have been studying Azure Web Services using the acloud.guru courses.
