Life is not a competition, but sometimes it is good to win. I got lucky in 2017 and came second with my Stout entry. That drove me to improve my brewing. I brewed with other Homebrewers and professional brewers. I read books and worked on the technique. I’m still learning. In 2019, I decided to temporarily stop competing and focus on the product. My winning beers were judged to the National Guild standards. I’ve entered more mainstream competitions (usually BJCP standards) and I usually get good scores, but I need to level up win places – the quality of home brew is extremely high.
