Good morning on this Sunday. This series of posts is designed to be a positive approach to the week, publishing things that I'm enjoying and I'm grateful for. It will also give you a high-level view of what I get up to.

1. Quote of the week

We subconsciously submit to what Seth Godin, author and entrepreneur, refers to as the “tyranny of being picked.” -- Ryan Holiday, The Obstacle is the Way

Don't wait to get chosen. Choose yourself.

2. What I've been enjoying

There is a feeling of camaraderie in my neighbourhood. Although we are not able to regularly meet or talk, there is a feeling that everyone is looking out for each other. I gave all my immediate neighbours some beer last weekend and it was a pleasure doing so. I also split my sourdough starter and gave some to a neighbour who is starting out with sourdough baking.

The pace of life is a bit slower outside of work and I have to say I'm enjoying this.

3. What I'm reading

I'm still on The Way of Zen by Alan Watts. It's deep. I have to admit I don't think I'm taking it all in. I find his audio easier to absorb. In the meantime, I have been keeping up with the Spectator and getting my fill of the newspapers with The Week. But they are very focused on COVID-19 which is a bit depressing. As part of my morning routine, I'm now reading the Koran.

4. What I'm doing in my free time

I've had very little free time this week, probably because it was a four day week. I have been fixing some small things around the house. If the weather was better today, I would be painting in the garden.

I have been experimenting with and making Kombucha but I have some way to go yet. My results are a little acidic and are still quite sweet. I'm going to keep going with it.

5. What I'm learning more about

I've continued with Azure Web Services using the acloud.guru courses. I'm also revising IP Networking basics because I need to be able to teach a course on it. It means getting all the details right!
