Now
This is a now page telling everyone in the world what I’m doing now.
Work
- Currently at the Tezos Foundation (TF), a Swiss foundation supporting the Tezos blockchain.
- I chair TF’s Technical Advisory Committee and am a member of the Ecosystem Funding Review Committee.
- I run TF’s bakers (the validators) and other infrastructure.
- I also head the IT team for TF and other entities.
- I manage security audits for software related to the Tezos blockchain.
I present the irregular Chief Baker’s Night Off podcast, usually with Germán. We are changing the name to “Tribe of Validators” to see if it gets more reach.
I also present the quarterly podcast Stakehouse with Germán, Cryptonio and Blangs. And more recently I’m an infrequent presenter on Signal Vox.
By training, I’m a mathematician with a PhD in Group Theory. I’m a chartered mathematician, chartered scientist and a chartered IT professional. I’m a fellow of both the BCS and IMA. I occasionally read books of mathematics, probably out of nostalgis. I’m currently reading one on Calculus.
Outside of this I manage a small property portfolio, which I’m dissolving. I resigned from all resident association directorships at the end of April. Whilst being a director, I changed property management companies and extended a lease from 80 years to 980 for all the leaseholders. I’m looking forward to being clear of property. The UK government does not support landlords. I managed to sell one flat this week, with another on the way - hopefully this month.
Writing
- I’ve written a book on Russian Verbs and I’m currently promoting it. I’m happy with the product, but it took a long time.
- I need to finish my book on Russian Handwriting. It’s bothering me that I haven’t finished it. I also need to buy a box of round tuits.
I’m writing two books now, both on Tezos. The first is about running infrastructure for Tezos. The second is about using Tezos and blockchain. The second one is causing me a bit of difficulty. But shhh, these are top secret. Don’t tell anyone.
Diet
- I occasionally blog about diet.
- In 2026, I’ve got strict with my diet. In January I abstained from alcohol and for Lent I did a 46 day “One Meal a Day” diet. I abstained from alcohol. Six days a week were without carbs.
- In May, I’m sort of on a “Two Meal a Day” diet which I suspect I’m currently ruining on holiday.
- In June, I suspect I will go hard on diet again.
Play
- I have a personal trainer Gary, picked because I haven’t got time to mess around and I need results. Which I’m getting. He’s got a vast knowledge of bodybuilding and diet.
- I have two sausage dogs, who are adorable, clingy and over reactive. They keep me active.
- I take bass guitar lessons. It’s something to do to switch off from everything else. At the moment I’m struggling with the triplets in bar 49 of Always on the Run.
- I like sophisticated food and I like cooking, but I also like simple food at the working person’s café. I blog about Pie and Mash, Fish and Chips and Full Englishes. And I like to have my eggs solid and well-done, something that perplexes others. I get a funny taste in my mouth if I eat fried eggs runny.
